Grow-A-Show supports artist residencies which provide local performance collectives with access to resources and rehearsal space to develop new performances.
For independent performance companies, the ability to explore and discover in world-class theatre spaces is a rare and exciting opportunity.
Past Cultch presentations including Flicker and Motherload, were both developed through artist residencies at The Cultch:
We as a dance company were able to experiment beyond what we were comfortable with. It was easier to take some risks. The residency strengthens the work produced by local artists by providing time for in depth research and choreographic exploration.”
– Margaret Grenier, executive and artistic director of Dancers of Damelahamid
I can’t highlight enough how hard it is to make new work… With The Cultch’s resources and support, we were able to make a show that is now going on to tour; that’s getting a second life. This show is going to be able to reach mothers all over Canada and make them feel like they’re not alone and that their story is worth telling.”
– Emelia Symington Fedy, co-creator and producer of Motherload
