Beach Practice in Concert
An evening of music with Veda Hille and friends.
In the early spring of 2020, Veda Hille was getting ready to do a lot of things: open a theatre production in Düsseldorf, tour her solo show Little Volcano, and continue working on large musicals. And then, like many people, suddenly she was homeschooling her son, figuring out how to have zoom meetings, and going for confusingly beautiful spring walks in the abruptly still city. She wrote a note to The Cultch, and they kindly named her Pandemic Artist In Residence and gave her the keys. Veda started practicing every day in the empty theatre. She wrote the songs that are now on Beach Practice in that limbo time, the period of suspension before the human world creaked back to life.
And so this concert is a true full circle: the songs that were born here came to life on a record produced by East Van neighbour Nicholas Krgovich, and now here they are being performed live for the first time. Veda is joined by Nick and good musician friends Julia Chien, Lucien Durey, Thom Gill, and Patsy Klein. Plus a special comedy set by Mark Chavez and Ryan Beil! Come join us in the beautiful Historic Theatre, full of life once again.
