The Parallel Project is back at The Cultch with four new monologues developed by four IBPOC playwrights. Founded in 2020, The Parallel Project, produced by Momentum 180 in partnership with The Cultch and Playwrights Theatre Centre with support from the City of Vancouver, is a 7-week monologue writing workshop for IBPOC playwrights. Over the course of six weeks, The Parallel Project facilitates the creation of four new monologues written by and for IBPOC artists, through professional dramaturgical mentorship. While the pieces are still in development, these readings signify the culmination of the program and offer a unique window into the dramaturgical process. This presentation exemplifies IBPOC excellence in the Vancouver theatre community, through the work of its playwrights, dramaturgs, and actors.

Monologues are a foundational part of theatre, whether they be for training, for auditions, or for performance. It is vitally important that they reflect the diversity of our artistic community and our individual lived experiences. We hope that this project sets a precedent for meaningful representation in Vancouver.

The presentation will be approximately one hour. We will take a 5-minute break before holding a 30-minute talkback with the playwrights and dramaturgs. We encourage meaningful discussion on the pieces, their content, and the dramaturgical process.
