When a lonely old ice-cream seller named Gelato is given a puppet, his dreams of having a child suddenly come true. Join a locally famous cricket, an angry orca, and a dastardly fox as poor Pinocchio does his best to tell everyone the truth and become a real boy. Will there be a Cappuccino War between the Abruzzos and the Calabrias? And why are all those kids ditching class to go to Hastings Racecourse? Don’t worry, Pinocchio—just follow your nose!

East Van Panto returns for a seventh year, welcoming back the creative team behind last year’s hit Wizard of Oz: playwright Marcus Youssef, composer Veda Hille, and director Stephen Drover.

Theatre Replacement’s East Van Panto has become a Vancouver tradition, to the point where it’s hard to imagine the holidays without it.” —Vancouver Musicals

Every year [East Van Panto] gets bigger and funnier”— Vancouver Presents

The East Van Panto is now officially the best holiday tradition in Vancouver”— Colin Thomas, colinthomas.ca

If the East Van Panto isn’t part of your holiday tradition yet, what are you waiting for?” — Kathleen Oliver, Georgia Straight

A great deal of fun for both adults and kids, I’m just sorry I waited seven years before seeing my first East Van Panto. As a result, I may never look at a panto quite the same way ever again.” –Vancouver Presents

The team of Youssef and Drover – in their second of two years – has been terrific. The proof? It takes at least half an hour to get your face back on from all that laughing, hooting and hollering.” –Jo Ledingham

A perfect blend of slapstick, social awareness and music that the whole family will find something to love” –Jay Minter, On the List

Insanely brilliant, insanely funny and just plain insanely entertaining.” –Fabulously Frugal

Pinocchio is an energizing family show offering a happy diversion for children, parents and grandparents; a celebration of community with an eco-message we shouldn’t ignore.” –John Jane, Review Vancouver

Pinocchio prods us to reconsider what’s important—namely, real connections with real people; families, no matter how dysfunctional or nontraditional; and the kind of whacked-out community Theatre Replacement’s annual gift celebrates each year.” –Janet Smith, The Georgia Straight

*Recommended for a general audience. As an advisory to adults who might bring young people, The Cultch recommends East Van Panto: Pinocchio for ages 5 and up. All persons entering the theatre, regardless of age, must have a ticket.
