A new—adults-only—holiday tradition!

Everybody’s favourite characters from Elbow Room Café: The Musical are back for a holiday extravaganza at The Cultch. When café owners, Patrice and Bryan, and a group of Christmas misfits are snowed in at the iconic café on Christmas Eve, all bets are off. Will Patrice make it to the Christmas Eve Spectacular, will Bryan finally reach his boiling point, will Tabby find something to satisfy her hunger, and will they ever find a way out? Featuring songs from the original musical, by Dave Deveau and Anton Lipovetsky, as well as seasonal favourites, this brand new holiday treat will have audiences singing and dancing all December long.

Holiday at the Elbow Room Café is a new Cultch holiday tradition inspired by Vancouver’s most iconic café. Written by Dave Deveau and directed by Cameron Mackenzie, husbands and lifelong friends of real life Elbow Room Café proprietors Patrice Savoie and Bryan Searle, Holiday at the Elbow Room Café is a hilarious and heartwarming tribute to the café known for slinging sarcasm and insults right along with its food. A local favourite for over 35 years, Elbow Room Café closed its doors for business in the fall of 2018, a year after the sad passing of Bryan Searle—this show is dedicated to his memory.

In Memory of Bryan Searle 1931-2017

The new musical is geared to both those who love the holidays and those who miss the Elbow Room… And like the eatery’s best brunches and lunches, when the insults, off-colour comments, and four-letter words were flying, Holiday at the Elbow Room Café is definitely not for those without a sense of humour.” — The Georgia Straight

Playwright Dave Deveau’s spiky and sweet charm is on full display… It has a charm that makes me want to return and check out what Deveau and Mackenzie cook up next year.” — Andrea Warner, The Georgia Straight

…there is an infectious celebratory mood created by this capable cast.” — Mark Robins, Vancouver Presents

The Elbow Room’s ultimate legacy is that it created a place where everyone was safe to be their truest self. Nobody had to pretend to be anything other than who they were.” —DAVE DEVEAU, Playwright & Co-Lyricist

After 35 years, a sassy spot in the city has gone silent.” — The Georgia Straight

The long-running diner known for its trademark cheeky service closed their doors for good on October 30 in the face of redevelopment.” — Vancouver is Awesome
