He Said It & White Wines. Two Plays by Gertrude Stein
presented by Radio Free Stein
June 4 & 5, 2016
Gertrude Stein, that queer, fat, Jewish, punk, modernist American writer, may be most famous for her best-selling tell-all The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas. But she also wrote almost 80 plays. On June 4th and 5th the Radio Free Stein project is proud to present a concert staging of two of these plays. He Said It (with music by Dave Chokroun) is a distressed comedy about two women who recreate a man’s monologue. White Wines (with music by Dorothy Chang) is about a drunken dinner party and its aftermath. Stein’s words collide with music, voices, and bodies on the stage, setting off sparks.
He Said It features performances by Sarah May Redmond (as “Speaker”), Leanna Brodie (as “Hearer”), and Dave Chokroun (as the piano-playing “Narrator”). Dave Chokroun composed the music.
White Wines features performances by Jenny Andersen, Mia Harris, Camille Hesketh, Kristin Hoff, and Katie Rife. Marguerite Witvoet conducts. Dorothy Chang composed the music.
