Bridging ancient traditions and contemporary forms, this groundbreaking new work blends the traditional Inuit practices of throat-singing, drumming, hunting, and competitive games, with circus arts, music, and theatre. A world of shadows, projections, actors, live musicians, and acrobats will transport the audience to an ancient world when life had not known death, days had not seen light, and where Inuit had not met white people.
Inspired by Inuit founding myths, this unprecedented creation will highlight the Inuit people, their traditions, and vision for the future, engaging Inuit and non-Inuit artists in a crosscultural collaboration. Featuring illustrations from celebrated artist Germaine Arnaktauyok, Unikkaaqtuat brings together a cast of Inuit musicians, Inuit circus artists, and Montréal-based circus artists.
The collective virtuosity of [The 7 Fingers] is something to see—and, crucially, to feel.”—Boston Globe
