A quick Q&A with Deanna Fleysher, creator of Butt Kapinski

We are thrilled to have Butt Kapinski , winner of the 2013 Cultchivating the Fringe Award, opening tonight at The Cultch! If you think this is a one-woman show, think again. Private eye Butt Kapinski invites you to co-star in a film noir fantasy. The incredible creator of this wild and fully interactive ride, Deanna Fleysher, shared with us some of her thoughts on the show’s development and what it’s like to be back in town.

  1. How does it feel to be back in Vancouver and presenting your show at The Cultch?

It is totally wonderful. I love Vancouver, I love East Van, I love The Cultch, I love rain, I love green, I love Asian fusion… it is just win-win as far as I am concerned.

  1. You have traveled all over North America with Butt Kapinksi, a show that has a lot of audience involvement. Have you ever come across a stubborn audience that refused to play along?

The short answer is no. Theatregoers are generally a cool bunch, and Butt Kapinski is very seductive.

  1. This show was a hit at last year’s Vancouver Fringe Festival. How has the show developed since 2013? What can audiences expect with this year’s edition?

There are a few surprises this year. Honestly, though, there are surprises every time I do the show. Those who have seen it repeatedly can attest to the fact that it is just a different show every time, depending on who is there and what we all bring to the night.  But one thing we can definitely expect is filth and perversity. You can always count on that.

Butt Kapinski runs from September 30 – October 11 in the Vancity Culture Lab. Tickets are just $25 and can be purchased online or by calling the box office at 604.251.1363.
