Hot Brown Honey is one of the most popular shows we have ever presented at The Cultch—it played at the York Theatre in 2018 and in 2019 to sold-out crowds. Hot Brown Honey is a powerful cabaret performance from phenomenal World First Nations women that turns expectations on their head and gets everyone on their feet.

Fans of Hot Brown Honey will be over the moon to know that we are going to be presenting Hot Brown Honey—The Remix this fall. We are so excited to introduce everyone to an incredible group of new, supercharged Honeys, and to re-introduce you to some of the more familiar faces you have come to love.

BUSTY BEATZ aka THE QUEEN BEE

How could we not introduce Busty Beatz first? She is the QUEEN BEE!! As Creator, Writer, Musical Director, Composer, and Sound Designer of the Hot Brown Honey shows she is foundational! Busty performed on the York stage in 2018 and 2019, and we CANNOT WAIT to see her again in her place of power atop The Hive!

LISA FA’ALAFI aka THE GAME CHANGER

Lisa Fa’alafi, aka The Game Changer, will be familiar to Cultch audiences not just from Hot Brown Honey, but also from her time hosting TRANSFORM:Cabaret Festival. She is the other Creator and Writer of Hot Brown Honey as well as the Director, Choreographer, and Designer. I don’t imagine any of those who have seen her dance will forget her “fan dance” anytime soon!

MATEHAERE HOPE HAAMI aka HOPE ONE

Hope One is a returning favourite, and Australia and New Zealand’s most renowned female beatboxer—placing 3rd in the women’s division at the World Beatboxing Championships in Germany! Fans of Hot Brown Honey will be excited to see this HBH Senior Collaborator, Beatboxer and Poet back on the York stage MAKING NOISE!

GHENOA GELA aka THE GROUND BREAKER

As one Of Hot Brown Honey’s Senior Collaborators, Ghenoa Gela has been part of Hot Brown Honey for quite a long while, but this run of Hot Brown Honey—The Remix at the York Theatre will be her first time in Vancouver! To say that we cannot wait to meet this Multi-Dimensional Storyteller is an understatement! Her background is in Torres Strait Island dance, and she works across genres, in dance, circus, television and stage.

MAYU MUTO aka THE GRAVITY DEFIER

Introducing Mayu Muto, The Gravity Defier! And defy gravity she does! As an Aerialist and overall circus performer, Mayu will bring mind boggling acts to the York Stage this fall. Mayu’s work is unconventional, drawing on her experiences as a Japanese woman artist living away from her cultural home and integrating skills and knowledge from various training.

ALINTA McGRADY aka BADASS MOTHER

We are so ready to meet Badass Mother, Alinta McGrady! Alinta is a First Nations woman with her roots planted in Meanjiin. She is a singer and songwriter with so much experience under her belt, and a voice like silk. Don’t believe us? Check out this song, ‘Red’, that she released in 2020.

LILIKOI KAOS aka THE WAVE MAKER

Get ready to laugh and cheer because The Wave Maker, Lilikoi Kaos, brings comedy and circus to Hot Brown Honey—The Remix! She is a multi-award winning Australian/Hawaiian powerhouse with a way with hula hoops and sideshow stunts. We can’t wait to experience her world renowned stage energy!
