My paintings reflect my continued interest in visual rhythms.

I am fascinated by structures and systems as found in geological formations and in living material, as well as in architecture and engineering projects.

I also perceive the rhythm and sound of spoken language and music to be informing my visual expressions.

All of these phenomena seem interconnected and they all play into my visual language in different ways.

My paintings are not about any of them as such, rather they can be understood as parallel to them, as a kind of visual poetry.

I enjoy playing with perception, expectation and movement within the painting and have chosen to express myself in abstract language.

Artist Statement

This series of paintings delves into the nuanced relationship between structure and fluidity, utilizing the canvas for creative experimentation. The collection features a series of paintings that seamlessly integrate intricate, grid-like patterns with expressive, organic strokes, inviting spectators into a dialogue between order and spontaneity.

The woven grid is a metaphorical loom, where colours intertwine to create a visual tapestry that transcends conventional boundaries. Each brushstroke functions as a thread, meticulously placed yet granted the freedom to move within the confines of the canvas.

Conversely, the more expressive paintings evoke the unrestrained spirit of water, unbound by the constraints of a rigid structure. These works flow and ripple with a liberated sense of movement. The contrast of these two approaches mirrors the inherent duality of existence—order and chaos, structure and spontaneity.
