Join two indie classic outfits at The Cultch this fall: Veda Hille’s new 6-piece ensemble VH Sisterhood will perform and record live at their homebase, The Cultch’s beautiful Historic Theatre. And reunited early aughts legends p:ano will release their first new album in 17 years!

Many of these musicians have overlapped as friends and players since the late 90s, and some are new to the gang. This combo of old and new suits this special evening perfectly—expect fresh songs played in old ways and old songs freshened up.

The Draw

Come and enjoy true Vancouver sounds and scenes in the heart of East Van!

Veda Hille Sisterhood is a six piece band, nominally lead by Veda. They are a gaggle of singers and players, each a dynamo in their own right. VHS began in 2022, born in the wake of quarantine when the need to sing together was a true imperative.  They have released one EP: Veda Hille Sisterhood Alive, recorded at The Cultch.

P:ANO
p:ano was formed in 1999 by two friends Nick Krgovich and Larissa Loyva. Nick was in high school and Larissa had just graduated. Their first show was at a high school art show opening in what used to be a shoe store at Lougheed Mall. Joined by Julia Chirka and Justin Kellam they made four albums, toured around and confoundedly played what seemed to be their last show at the venerated Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona in 2006 where Nick and Julia got to meet E.S.G. and Justin and Larissa got to see Lou Reed. Then in the winter of 2023 Nick got an invitation to contribute a song to a Zum Records 25th anniversary compilation which was the label that released the first two p:ano albums. 25 years! Ok! Nick thought “how random would it be if we made a new p:ano song for this?” and everyone said “let’s do it!” So, after getting together and being amused and delighted by how fun it was to be making music together again the group ended up recording ten new songs for an album that will be out this September. The LP is called “ba ba ba” and according to Justin it sounds like the album that would have come out between “When It’s Dark And It’s Summer” and “The Den” only now everyone is in their 40s and 50s and not 20s and 30s. Anyway! Last year p:ano played two shows after a 17 year hiatus – one in a park off Rupert Street in East Vancouver and the other in Nick’s parent’s backyard with his dad on the grill and his mom wheeling around a wagon filled with cookies and snacks. The group are very excited to play their new songs and release this LP and play their only show on the books for 2024. Who knows what’s next?
