The East Van Panto: Beauty and The Beast is now in full swing at The Cultch’s York Theatre and that means that soon, a full row of seats will be taken up by the incredible team at The Discovery Group. Now entering their 4th year as The Panto Partner, we decided to ask the Discovery Groups Managing Director Allyson Haug a few fun questions.

Q: What is your favourite Panto memory?

Allyson: My favourite memory of the Panto may seem strange, but it was watching the Panto from our couch during the pandemic. Doug and the kids and I were so happy to have any novel even to participate in – the dancing and singing along was ridiculously fun and silly (like the cliché) because no one was watching! It was then that we decided we wanted to sponsor this fun performance.

Q: Is there a Panto song that got stuck in your head or the head of any of your colleagues?

Allyson: The BTS adapted song – Smooth like Butter – our colleague, Christoph sung it around the office for weeks!

Q: What are you looking forward to most for this year’s Beauty and The Beast Panto?

Allyson: It sounds very self-applauding – and it is – but I love how our team cheers and applauds extra loud when we hear our name – TDG  – in the song I also love the first appearance of the villain!

Q: If you had to, which costume or character would you most want to wear or play?

Allyson: The villain or the year – the beast

The Discovery Group is part of the Cultch and Panto family, and if you are lucky enough to attend the same show as them this year, you will surely hear them whooping and booing and laughing – bringing joyful participation to all that they do.
